SGI Grade 1 Study Companion — Privacy Policy

The SGI Grade 1 Study Companion (sgigrade1.kohaiglobal.com) is an independent study aid developed and published by KØHAI Global. This Privacy Policy explains how the site handles your information.

1. Information We Collect

The site is designed to work entirely without user accounts and to collect as little data as possible:

  • Progress & Preferences: Your study progress, completed sessions, bookmarks, glossary views, and mock exam results are stored as cookies in your own browser. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us.
  • Short-Answer Quiz Responses: When you submit a written answer to a short-answer question, the site first attempts to grade it locally on your device using a fuzzy text matcher. If the local matcher cannot confidently grade your answer, the text of your answer — along with the question and the expected answer — is sent to Anthropic's API for AI-assisted grading via Claude Haiku. Your answer is processed only for the purpose of returning a grade and is not retained by us afterwards.
  • Server Logs: Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, may automatically log standard request data (such as IP address, user agent, and timestamps) for security and reliability purposes. We do not use this data for tracking or profiling.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

The site does not collect, store, or transmit:

  • Names, email addresses, or other personal identifiers
  • Account credentials (the site has no login)
  • Location data
  • Tracking cookies or advertising identifiers
  • Analytics or behavioural usage data

3. Data Storage

All progress and preference data is stored locally in your browser as cookies. You can clear this at any time via your browser's site settings. Doing so will reset your progress on this site but will not affect anything stored elsewhere.

4. Third-Party Services

The site relies on a small number of third-party services to function:

  • Cloudflare: Hosts the site via Cloudflare Pages and provides DNS and content delivery. The serverless function used for AI-assisted grading also runs on Cloudflare Pages.
  • Anthropic (Claude API): Used solely for grading short-answer quiz questions when the local matcher needs assistance. Submitted text is processed under Anthropic's API terms; per those terms, API inputs are not used to train Anthropic's models by default.

We do not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services on this site.

5. Affiliation

This site is an independent study companion built to support participants of the SGI-UK Grade 1 study course. It is not officially produced, endorsed, or maintained by SGI-UK. Course material referenced or summarised on the site remains © SGI-UK.

6. Children's Privacy

The site is a Buddhist study companion intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
